How to track SMS clicks in Google Analytics with BuzzBlaster
BuzzBlaster adds UTM tags to every link in your SMS, so Google Analytics shows the visits with source buzzblaster, medium sms and your campaign name. You do not set anything up. Write your link with https:// and BuzzBlaster does the rest.
Which UTM tags does BuzzBlaster add?
| Tag | Value |
|---|---|
utm_source |
buzzblaster |
utm_medium |
sms |
utm_campaign |
Your campaign name in small letters, with words joined by _ and cut to about 40 characters. "Spring sale" becomes spring_sale. |
If your link already has utm_source, utm_medium or utm_campaign, BuzzBlaster replaces them. Other parts of your link, such as utm_content or a discount code, stay as they are.
Set up a campaign for tracking
- Click New campaign and type a Campaign name you will recognize in Google Analytics. The hint under the field says "Becomes utm_campaign in your tracking links."

- On the Message step, add the full link to your shop page, for example
https://yourshop.com/sale. A bareyourshop.comalso gets tags. - Send yourself a test and tap the link. The address bar shows your page with the three tags.
In the SMS, the link is a short link. When someone taps it, they go to your page with the tags added.
Where do I see the visits in Google Analytics?
In Google Analytics 4, open Reports → Acquisition → Traffic acquisition and set the table to Session source / medium. Look for buzzblaster / sms. Add Session campaign to compare campaigns.
Where do I see clicks in BuzzBlaster?
Open the campaign from the Sent list. The Clicked column counts taps on the short links for each country, and CTR is clicks divided by recipients.
- Every tap counts. One person who taps twice counts twice, so CTR can go above 100%.
- Clicks are counted for 30 days after the campaign's send time.
- Short links stop working 90 days after they were made.
Questions
BuzzBlaster shows more clicks than Google Analytics shows sessions. That is normal. BuzzBlaster counts every tap. Google Analytics counts sessions, and it misses visitors who block tracking or leave before the page loads.
Can I use my own UTM values? You can set utm_campaign through the campaign name. utm_source and utm_medium are always buzzblaster and sms. Use utm_content in your link if you need one more value.
Can I use bit.ly links? No. Shortened links are blocked with "Shortened links are not allowed." Use the full link.
